FG Alerts Nigerians To Fake PTC Social Media Account

The Federal Government has alerted Nigerians to a fake social media account being paraded as that of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC).

Presidential Transition Council is chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha to manage the transitioning from the current government to the incoming government when Muhammadu Buhari officially hands over to Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.

Mustapha disowned the Twitter account purportedly belonging to PTC as fake.

“The attention of the PTC has been drawn to a fake Twitter handle, @TransitionNgr created by unscrupulous persons since April 2020 even before the establishment and inauguration of the council,” Mustapha said in a statement.

“The PTC has nothing to do with the fake Twitter handle. President Muhammadu Buhari gave approval for the establishment of the PTC only in February 2023.

“The existence of the fake Twitter handle before February 2023 exposed the irresponsible and calculated attempt by its handlers to disseminate inaccurate and tainted information to unsuspecting members of the public.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the authentic Twitter account of the PTC is: @FGNPTC (FGN PRESIDENTIAL TRANSITION COUNCIL).”

Mustapha advised the public to discountenance the fake Twitter account and use the official account handle of the PTC for genuine and accurate information on its activities.

He emphasised that the activities of the PTC were on course as all committee members were working assiduously for the success of the inauguration of a new administration on 29 May.

President Muhammadu Buhari on February 9 approved the establishment of the transition council to co-ordinate the activities geared towards ensuring a smooth transition of power to the incoming government.

Other members of the PTC include the head of the civil service of the federation, the solicitor-general of the federation, the permanent secretary of the ministry of justice, permanent secretaries from the ministries of defence, interior, finance, foreign affairs, and information, and other government officials.
