Fayose Bequeaths N155bn Debt For My Administration- Fayemi
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on Thursday disclosed that the debt profile of the state stood at N155,791,785,214.08k as at October 16, 2018 when he assumed office.
The governor said the figure was the outcome of the thorough review of the state documents as promised on his day of inauguration.
According to him, the over N155 billion debt include local loans and other debt profile as at October 16, 2018.
He urged the people of the state to use the occasion of the next month’s general elections to consolidate on the gains of the past 100 days of his government in the state.
The governor urged the people of the state to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the polls.
“In the next couple of days, we shall approach the polls again to participate in the electioneering process. I urge you all to play by the rules and be law abiding.
“As a people, we must use the next elections to consolidate on the gains of the past 100 days. Our conduct before, during and after the election must be rancour free.
“In every situation, the best thing you can do is the right thing, be guided and let’s jointly build on our modest, steady, feasible, realistic, sustainable and impactful gains. May we be at the “Next Level” together.
He said his administration inherited a state that was in total chaos and a people severely disoriented under a suppressive government who had raised and promoted deceit into a state craft.
According to him, “the last 100 days have clearly shown to us, in a very practical manner, that with clarity of vision, the resolve to push through and the unflinching support of the people, there are endless possibilities in our capacities to steer our state on the path of progress.
“Despite the meager resources at our disposal, we are meticulously delivering on our promises to the people through our various short, medium and long term socio-economic intervention programmes.
“We must examine our tortuous path with a view to charting a new course for a prosperous destination, not only for us, but also for our unborn children.”
While condemning the idea of borrowing to finance white elephant, unproductive and self-serving projects as grossly unpatriotic, the governor, however, said that there were many success stories to recount within this short, but remarkably significant period.
Fayemi, called on Ekiti people for support and cooperation of the administration to build on the gains of the past 100days, saying all hands must be on the deck to move Ekiti forward economically, socially and politically.
“I enjoin you all to keep supporting us, especially in the areas of tax payment and selfless suggestions on how to jointly move Ekiti State forward”
The governor had earlier signed into law the N129.9 2019 appropriation bill, with the promise that the state will experience progress and development.
