Ijesa/IBEDC Feud: Fadahunsi Calls For Calm
Consequent upon the crisis generated by the disconnection of electricity to Ijesaland by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company IBEDC, the Senator-elect for Osun East Senatorial District, Chief Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi has appealed to electricity consumers in the area to be calm and peaceful.
In a press release by his media assistant, Sam Segun-Progress and made available to journalists in Osogbo, Fadahunsi noted that meaningful development can only take place in a peaceful atmosphere.
Irate youths had took to the street of Ilesa to protest the disconnection of electricity to Ijesaland that consists of six local governments following alleged attack on IBEDC staff by some consumers in Olomilagbala area of Ilesa.
However, the protest turned violent with attack on IBEDC facilities, journalists among others which led to the closure of the three tertiary institutions domiciled in Ijesaland by Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Monday.
Fadahunsi charged the youths not to allow themselves to be used as agents of division and retrogression of the destined growth and development of Ijesaland.
“Ijesa culture of orderliness, peace and justice should be sustained by all and sundry.
“We have evolved over the years a virile and trusted leadership capable of making the electricity distribution company see reason for cooperation with Ijesa land in order to achieve success.
He equally called on Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to be more responsible and responsive to the yearnings of their customers. This is because there is need for symbiotic relationship for cordiality to exist.
It would be recalled that aides of Fadahunsi rescued some Journalists from being attacked by the irate youths protesting blackout in Ijesa land.
Fadahunsi therefore enjoined all to team up with monarchs and community leaders to find a lasting peace to the festering relationship between Ijesa and the power distributing company saying, peace ends all wars.
Meanwhile, though power has not been restored to Ijesaland as at the time of filling this report, normalcy has returned to Ilesa with people going about their businesses without any hindrance.
