Evans To Be Charged To Court Soon- IGP
Contrary to speculations, the Inspector General of police Ibrahim Kpotun Idris has said the billionaire kidnapper Chukwudi Onumudike alias Evans arrested in Lagos last month will soon be charged to court .
The police boss spoke at a security seminar held at Eko Hotel and Suite, with the theme “ Providing Strategic Solutions To Emergent Security Challenges, The Essentials of Synergy Amongst Security Agencies And The Civil Populace”,
IGP added that many of the kidnappers are being prosecuted in various courts across the country, just as he recalled the killing of a notorious kidnapper identified as Henry Chubueze a.ka. Vampire in a cross fire with the police and the arrest of Chukwudi Onumudike.
According to him, no fewer than over 1000 kidnappers and armed robbery suspects were arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police across the country in the month of July 2017,
IGP assured that efforts were been made to arrest other suspected kidnappers and bandits in various parts of the country.
He pointed out that the crime prevention and detection strategies of his administration have worked based on the number of kidnappers and armed robbery suspects arrested and even killed during cross fire, adding that most heinous crimes, especially kidnapping and armed robbery are being detected with great success.
IGP added that insurgency has been decimated in the North/ East, with the same success story in the fight against militancy in the South/ South and cattle rustling in the North, which he attributed to the collaborative efforts with the military.
Despite the successes recorded by the police since his assumption office, the IGP said there is the need for synergy amongst the military, other security agencies and the civil populace to effectively deal with the challenges of security in the country.
“ It is in realization of this that we regularly collaborate with the military and other security forces in organising joint patrol. This synergy has worked in many states including, but not limited to our collaborative efforts in Benue, Kaduna, North/ East, kano, Lagos and South/ East.
“We are constantly reviewing , reassessing our collaborative synergy for better performance”, the IGP stressed.
In addition, Idris pointed out that the civil populace is also very vital in the fight against crime and criminality in the country, emphasizing that the policemen need the collaboration and synergy of the community where they police to effectively deal with crime in the policing spacing space.
‘’ The Police under my watch is committed to defeating all security challenges confronting our dear country. However, we cannot do it alone, we need the support of all Nigerians, we need more funding , we need manpower , we need technological and scientific support.”
