Evacuate Your Logs From Road Sides, Ogun Tells Wood Merchants

Ogun State government has directed all ‘rose wood’ merchants in the State to evacuate their products dumped indiscriminately along road side to designated areas approved by the government.

The directive conveyed in a press release signed by Commissioner for Forestry, Chief Kolawole Lawal, indicated that it was imperative to curb incessant and indiscriminate dumping of wood along the road sides in the State, saying that indiscriminate loading and off loading of wood along the road sides constituted danger to other road users and environmental nuisance.

According to the release, loading and off loading of wood had been restricted to a location in each of the four areas of Owode-Egba, Ode-Remo, Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, adding that the directive would bring proper and effective coordination and improve management of rose wood (Koso) business in the State.

It therefore warned that any wood operator found contravening the order would be arrested, prosecuted and all woods confiscated sold on court order.
