Etisalat partners DevHub for legislative summit on SDGs

Nigeria’s most innovative telecommunications network, Etisalat, has announced partnership plans with Development Hub Nigeria-Devhub Nigeria to hold a Legislative Summit on the attainment of the United Nations-backed Sustainable Development Goals agenda in the country.
The thought leadership summit, which will hold on November 22 and 23 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, is aimed at producing a National Legislative Forum on the SDGs (NLF-SDGs) to fast-track the attainment of the goals.
It will also proffer a review mechanism that relevant stakeholders can employ to measure achievements of the SDGs in the country.
Speaking ahead of the Summit, the Vice President, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Etisalat Nigeria, Ibrahim Dikko, noted that the attainment of the SDGs agenda within the 2030 timeline would only be feasible if all relevant stakeholders demonstrate active commitment to the process that facilitates its actualization.
Dikko said: “The SDGs are not just government goals, but rather development goals that, if attained, would make the lives of the citizenry better off. It is therefore, the collective duty of all stakeholders to see to the actualization of the goals. At Etisalat, we believe in the SDGs agenda as well as its actualization through active participation of all stakeholders. This is why we are honoured to partner with Devhub to create a platform that would bring together all stakeholders and facilitate discussions, ownership and participation in the process that will drive the attainment of the goals.”
Dikko added that earlier in the year, Etisalat partnered with renowned management consultancy firm, Thistle Praxis Consulting, to host the seventh edition of Sustainable Conversations, which is a thought leadership series that focuses on the development of key sectors in the country.
The theme of that forum was: “Sustainable Development Goals: Fast-tracking targets through Technology and Education.”
It was designed to initiate discussions across the public and private sectors on attaining the SDGs.
The upcoming summit, a statement said, is a natural next step to take in effectuating these goals and driving sustainable development for Nigeria.
Dikko expressed confidence that the Legislative Summit on SDGs will facilitate both the legislative and public ownership of the SDGs and drive commitment towards domestication of the SDGs through enabling legislations, appropriation and monitoring.
The summit, the foremost in the country on the SDGs, is a platform to galvanize activities and development effort from a legislative and executive perspective on the achievements of the SDGs.
Delegates expected at the two-day summit include the leadership of the House of Representatives, Committee Chairs and Deputies, members of the Executive, members of the House Committee on the SDGs, Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly and their Deputies, relevant MDAs and stakeholders from the International Development Community in Nigeria, Non-Governmental Developmental organisations, corporate organisations and multi-national companies, Business leaders and relevant members of the public.
