Ekiti Varsity Council Chairman, Adeyeye, Resigns Over Fayose ‘s Deputy Adoption

A frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti state, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, Thursday, resigned his appointment as the Pro-chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
His resignation came barely 24 hours after some major stakeholders of the PDP in the state adopted deputy governor, Prof. Kola Olusola as the sole candidate of the party in the 2018 governorship election in the state, which he (Adeyeye) swiftly dismissed as a charade.
Confirming the development to journalists in Ado Ekiti via a telephone conversation, Adeyeye said he resigned on Thursday and a letter to that effect has been conveyed to Governor Fayose.
Adeyeye, who is currently the national publicity secretary of the PDP caretaker committee, it would be recalled, was made Pro-chancellor of the state-owned university by Governor Ayodele Fayose shortly after he left his position as the Minister of Works (State) in 2015.
Reacting to the adoption of Prof. Olusola by the party through his campaign platform, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), he said, “This is a clear breach of the constitution of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the provisions of the Electoral Act”.

Citing Section 50 (1), Section 50(2) and 50(2b) of the PDP constitution (2012) as amended, Adeyeye added, “The meeting of the amorphous group that was hastily convened today out of fear of the overwhelming popularity of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye not only among the party’s rank and file, but also the generality of Ekiti people is unknown to the PDP constitution .

‘It is important to note that PDP as a political party is bigger and larger than an individual, no matter how highly placed he or she may be, as to override the rules and regulations of the party which are sacrosanct in the election of any candidate for elective position.

“PAAM believes in credible, transparent and free and fair primary for all aspirants for the position of governor come 2018 and rejects the purported adoption of a sole candidate in its entirety, as there are many other aspirants for the governorship race in 2018. This gathering was organized and supervised by Governor Fayose to impose a stooge as the sole candidate for PDP in Ekiti State.”
Former Nigeria Ambassador to Canada, Ambassador Dare Bejide and the immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi who are also governorship aspirants on the platform of the party have since rejected the adoption, insisting the party candidate must emerge through a transparent primaries.
