Efunjoke Coker Bags 2016 KARIS Award In Lagos
Foremost educationist and first Nigerian indigenous Principal of the prestigious Queens College , Lagos Mrs Efunjoke Coker yesterday clinched the highly exalted 2016 KARIS award.
Speaking at the Grace 2016 KARIS award ceremony organized by the Household of God International Ministries, the Head, Benevolence Department , Household of God International Ministries Mike Igbokwe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) said the annual national event is the church’s ways of giving back to the society and those who have contributed to national development.
He said, “The KARIS award is mainly for recognition of a Nigerian living or dead who had distinguished him or herself through their contribution to the development to the country in one area or other but whose contributions have not been adequately recognized or at all.”
Igbokwe added that the 2016 KARIS award which has cash reward of N2 million was won by coker because oof her various contribution to the Nigeria educational and social sector.
He said,” she transformed Queen’s College , Lagos into that premier school for girls in Nigeria , training the girls to become ladies and installing , with a very firm but loving hand , the values of integrity , hard work , honesty and respect.
” The lessons that she ingrained in her students continue to propel and inspire them. Her impact is visible in their collective success . Some have won both national and international awards. They are are at the forefront of their fields with some becoming household names due to their high profile political positions.”
He added that recognizing her immense contribution as a dedicated teacher , moral tutor. And pace- setter in the emancipation of Nigerian womanhood will spur the new generation of women to toe the path of greatness and making others great.
In her response Mrs. Efunjoke Coker counseled Nigerian youths to be patriotic and be prepared work assiduously with a view to building on the foundation of their heroes past for accelerated national growth.
