EFCC Arraigns Perm Sec For Failing To Declare His Assets
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arraigned a former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Dr illoh Onubuogo Clement before the Federal High Court in Lagos on a three-count-charge of non assets declaration.
In the first count, the defendant on the 19th of April 2016 in Lagos allegedly failed to make full disclosure of assets to the tune of N97.3m, an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 27 subsection 3c of the EFCC Establishment Act of 2004.
In the second count, he allegedly failed to make a disclosure of the sum of $139,575 thousand dollars and in the third count he failed to disclose assets of £10, 121 pounds.
According to the anti-graft agency counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo the offences is contrary to the provisions Of sections 23 (3)(c) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act 2004.
The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following a bail application as moved by his counsel, Mr Tom Awana, the trial judge, Justice Babs Kuewumi admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50 million with one surety in like sum.
The judge also ordered that the surety must submit his recent passport photograph, while the accused is to submit his international passport with the court’s Deputy Chief Registrar.
The judge however ordered that the accused be remanded at EFCC custody, pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
Justice Kuewumi consequently adjourned the case to May 8 for trial.
