 EFCC Secures Nine Internet Fraud Convictions In Delta State

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal office, on November 22 , 2019  secured the convictions  of nine internet fraudsters  before Justice  Emeke Nwite of the Federal High Court sitting in Warri,  Delta State.

The convicts are: Uduehi Usuinor Marvelous ( a.k.a Harry Potter: Jack Potter) , Akama Precious ( a.k.a Victor Uka ) , George Raphael ( a.k.a  David Mark ) , Agofure Godstime ( a.k.a Donald Chris ) , Agebiri Stanley ( a.k.a Mark  Frank ) , Gigi Emmanuel Ose ,  Fedinald Emefiele , Ojiefo Marvelous and Happy Alex

The quintet of Akama Precious, George Raphael, Agofure Godstime, Agebiri Stanley  and Uduehi Usunor were arraigned for Internet fraud and impersonating foreign nationals while Ojiefo Marvelous, Gigi Emmanuel Ose, Happy Alex were arraigned for having in their possessions documents  containing false pretences.

One of the count reads: That you ” Uduehi Usunor Marvelous ( Alias Harry Potter; Jack Potter) sometime between 2018 and June 2019 in Benin City within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did fraudulently impersonate the identity of one Harry Potter and Jack Potter both Americans in your Yahoo Mail Account where you sent scammed mails and other fraudulent documents to unsuspecting ladies  through the internet which documents you  claim emanated from the said Harry Potter and Jack Potter with intent to obtain money from the ladies , and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrime ( Prohibition Prevention, etc) Act 2015 and punishable under Section 22(2)(b)(IV) of the same Act

All the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them by the EFCC.

In view of their plea, the prosecuting counsel, Larry Peters Aso  urged the court to convict and sentenced  them  as contained in the plea bargain agreement and that items recovered from the  defendants be forfeited to the federal government. However, the defence counsel pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as they were first time offenders who have become remorseful for their actions

Justice Emeka Nwite convicted and sentenced five  of the  defendants  to  six months imprisonment commencing from the date of judgement  or a fine of three Hundred thousand naira (N300,000) while Agofure Godstime , Akama Precious ,  George Raphael and Happy Alex were sentenced to six (6) months imprisonment  or a fine of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) only

Justice Nwite also ordered that proceeds of crime recovered from them be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
