D’Tigress Lose To South Korea In World Cup Opener

Nigeria’s D’Tigress began their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign on a losing note after South Korea handed the African champions a 99–81 defeat in Berlin, Germany, on Friday.

The result extended Nigeria’s poor record against Asian opposition at the global tournament, while D’Tigress also remain without a victory in their opening World Cup fixture.

South Korea established control of the contest through sustained offensive pressure, leaving Nigeria chasing the game for much of the encounter.

Despite their efforts to stay within touching distance, D’Tigress could not find a response strong enough to overturn the deficit as South Korea eventually secured an 18-point victory.

The result leaves Nigeria needing to recover quickly, with Hungary awaiting them in their next Group B fixture.

A victory against Hungary would be important for D’Tigress as they seek to remain in contention for a place in the knockout phase of the competition.
