Lagos NIPR Mourns Passing Of Veteran Journalist And NIPR Member, Dotun Oladipo
The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr Dotun Oladipo, veteran journalist, publisher of Eagle Online, former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and a member of the Institute’s Lagos State Chapter.
Mr Oladipo reportedly passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
Reacting to the sad news, the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of NIPR, Dr Samuel Ayetutu, fnipr, frpa, described the death of Mr Oladipo as a painful loss to the journalism and communication community, as well as to the many professional and personal relationships he built throughout his career.
Dr Ayetutu said Mr Oladipo was a committed media professional whose career reflected the important role journalism and digital publishing play in informing society, shaping public discourse and holding institutions accountable.
“The news of Dotun Oladipo’s passing is deeply painful. We have lost not only a veteran journalist and respected online publisher, but also a colleague and member of the Lagos Chapter of NIPR. His contributions to journalism, particularly to the growth and professionalisation of online publishing in Nigeria, will not be forgotten.”
The Chairman recalled Mr Oladipo’s service as President of GOCOP and his contribution to the development of the online publishing community, noting that his professional journey demonstrated the changing nature of Nigeria’s media landscape and the growing importance of credible digital journalism.
Dr Ayetutu expressed particular sadness that Mr Oladipo passed away at a relatively young age, describing his death as a reminder of the fragility of life and the need to value the contributions of professionals while they are still with us.
The Chairman extended the condolences of the Lagos State Chapter to Mr Oladipo’s family, friends, colleagues at Eagle Online, members of GOCOP, the journalism community and all who mourn his passing.
“At this difficult moment, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. We pray that God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. We also pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.”
The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations joins the wider media and communication community in mourning Mr Dotun Oladipo and commends his years of service to journalism and public communication.
