Amosun Doles Out N1. 2 Billion As Severance Allowance To Political Office Holders
Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun has disbursed cheques worth N1. 2 billion as severance allowances to 750 political office holders who served the state at local government levels between year 2007 till 2010.
The disbursements, which held at the Arcade Ground of the State Secretariat complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State, marked the third tranche of settlements to beneficiaries who collected their severance pay since the advent of the Ibikunke Amosun led administration in 2011.
Speaking at the disbursements of the cheques, Amosun said his administration has been consistent with the payment of allowances to political office holders without discrimination.
The governor explained that his administration began the payment of severance allowance to former political office holders, on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, while the second batch of payment was held on Wednesday, December, 28, 2016.
He further stated that since inception, his administration has so far spent a total sum of N2. 6 billion as severance allowances to all political office holders both at the state and local government levels.
Emphasising that there was the need to reward, “Those who have been driving the wheel of developments” in the state, Amosun further assured that his administration would pay all outstanding payments before the expiration of his tenure in May this year.
“There is a need to reward those responsible for driving the development of our dear State and made them assure of their future for this reason we are holding this ceremony of payment of severance allowance to former political office holders as another symbolic effort of rebuilding our state”.
“Since the inception of our administration, we have kept faith with the payment of gratuities and pensions to retired public servants. It is important that as we kept on paying retirement benefits to Civil Servants, we must also do the same for their political counterparts.
“Let me tell those who are still in service that we will continue to keep faith with payment of their gratuities and pensions after their services. Let me also say that this payment also covered the political office holders even in the previous administration. We will not discriminate in the recognition of toward our administration state”.
