Danish Citizen Remanded For Alleged Murder Of Nigerian Singer In Prison

A Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba area of the state on Wednesday remanded the Danish citizen, Peter Nielsen, who was accused of killing his wife Zainab, and his three-year-old daughter, Petra in prison custody.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Kemi Ayeye, gave the order after Nielsen, was arraigned before her by the state’s Police Command on a two counts of murder.

The foreigner, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The development made the court to order that he be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The police prosecutor, CSP Effiong Asuquo, informed the court that the accused committed the offences on April 5 at his residence at Block 4, Flat 17, Bella Vista Tower, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Asuquo claimed that the accused person killed his wife, Zainab, 37, and her daughter, Petra, in the house.

He alleged, “The accused who was always at loggerheads with his wife had hit her head on the wall several times leading to her death; he also proceeded to poison his daughter.

“He had dragged their lifeless bodies under the gas to create the impression that they suffocated to death as a result of a gas leakage,” the prosecutor maintained.

Asuquo also stressed that the offence is contrary to Sections 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which prescribes death sentence for offenders.

The court has adjourned the case to May 8 pending DPP’s advice.
