COVID-19: Great Ife Friends Donates Items Worth N1.2m To OAUTHC.
Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals, Ile-Ife has commended the patriotic zeal of the Great Ife Friends of the Teaching Hospitals for reaching out to the COVID-19 ward of the hospital.
The Great Ife Alumni Friends of the Teaching Hospitals recently donated valuable items worth #1.2 million that include plastics bedside cabinets; one 6 feet changing cabinet; two wheel chairs; two rechargeable sprayers; six bedpans, four oximeters; four drip giving stands; 200 white light bulbs; 1000 disposable face masks; 1000 surgical gloves among others to the COVID-19 ward of the hospital.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Afolabi Owojuyigbe, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the hospital noted that COVID-19 treatment is expensive adding that for a group to think it worthwhile to assist the hospital is commendable.
Owojuyigbe admonished good spirited peoples in the society to take a cue from what the group did saying that government alone cannot fund health sector especially with the pandemic around.
Also speaking, the Consultant Public Health Physician and Case Manager in case of Isolation Ward of OAUTHC, Dr. Temitope Ojo, noted that the donation will to a large extent make their works more effective and give their patients a new lease of life because Covid-19 is not a general sickness.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Lanre Anifowose, Director, National Population Commission explained that they got information about the needs of the Isolation Ward of the Hospitals and deemed it right to act fast.
He was corroborated by Dr. Bisi Anyadike who remarked that “giving back to our Alma-Mater is a way of showing gestures of gratitude to the Institution that made us”.
