An 80 years old man, Habbib Ajibawo, was Thursday, remanded in prisons custody, by an Igboseere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on allegations of arson, attempted murder, threat to life and land grabbing and breach of public peace.
The men of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, had approached the court presided over by Chief Magistrate O. Oshin (Mrs.) through a remand application against the 80 years old man, on the alleged offences.
FCIID in the remand application filed and argued before the court by Barrister Morufu Animashaun, stated that the 80 years old man and others now at large, conspired among themselves to commit offences bordering on: malicious Damage, attempted murder, arson, assault, threat to Life, conduct likely to breach of peace, forceful takeover of lands, in the entire lpaja Area, in lpaja-Ayobo Local Government Development, Lagos State.
The FCIID’s lawyer stated before the court that reasons for applying for the remand of the 80 Yeats old man include: he was arrest at place with exhibits which includes offensive weapons, his confessional statement, and that he is being identified by victims of the offence.
Barrister Animashaun told the court that the remand application against the 80 years old man, was pursuant to section 246(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Lagos State Law, 2015, and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.
He urged the court to remand the suspect until when the police will conclude its investigation and arraign him before a High Court.
However, the lawyer to the suspect, O. Monye, pleaded with the court not to grant the remand application, rather the court should consider the age of his client and admit him to bail in the most liberal term.
Ruling on the submissions of the police and the lawyer to the suspect, presiding magistrate O. Oshin (Mrs), granted him bail in the sum of N250, 000, with one surety in the same like sum.
The magistrate while adjourned the matter till March 28, for mention, ordered that the suspect be remanded in prisons custody
