Court Convicts Ex-convict, Other For Unlawful Dealing In Marijuana
A Lagos Federal High Court, Monday, convicted and sentenced a 20 years old ex-convict, Wasiu Tajudeen, to five years Imprisonment, for dealing in 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa, popularly called marijuana.
The convict was given the jail term by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, after he pleaded guilty to a count charge of unlawful dealing in the prohibited leaves, made against him by the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
The prosecutor, Mr. Lambert Nor had told the court that the convict was arrested with the banned weeds, on July 2, 2022, at Abule-Odu Egbeda, Lagos State.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence committed by the convict, contravened Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and punishable under the same Act.
The convict, pleaded guilty to the charge, upon his arraignment, and pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercy in sentencing him.
But the prosecutor told the court that the convict is a serial drug dealer, who had once be convicted and sentenced to a year imprisonment by Justice Abdullahi Liman.
To prove his claim, the prosecutor tendered conviction warrant dated January 29, 2020, issued by Justice Liman against the convict.
Upon admitting the conviction warrant, Justice Lewis-Allagoa, sentenced the convict to five years imprisonment without an option of fine.
In the same vain, another Indian Hemp seller, Nura Mohammed Yakubu, was also convicted and sentenced to three years Imprisonment without an option of fine.
Justice Lewis-Allagoa convicted the Indian hemp, Nura, the jail-term, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful dealing in 154 grams of Cannabis Sativa, also known as, marijuana, made against him by the NDLEA.
The prosecutor, Mr. Lambert Nor, had told the court that the 28 years old convict, Nura, was arrested with the cannabis sativa on October 21, 2022, at Flour market Odongunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos.
He told the court that the offence committed by the convict is contrary to and punishable under section 11 (c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The convict, admitting committed the offence and pleaded guilty to the charge.
He however urged the court to tamper justice with mercy in sentencing him, while promised not to go back to the crime if given another chance.
Justice Lewis-Allagoa, after hearing the prosecutor and the convict’s plea for leniency, sentenced him to three years imprisonment.
