Court Remands Man, 68, For Raping 10-year-old Girl
An Osogbo Magistrate’s Court in Osun State has remanded a 68-year-old man, Ayodele Faremi, in prison for allegedly defiling and raping a 10-year-old girl in Osogbo.
The police in the state dragged Faremi to court and accused him of having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl identified as Korope Rose (not real name) at about 9:00 am on September 13, 2022, at Dele Yes Sir Area of Osogbo.
Police prosecutor, John Idoko, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the sexagenarian took undue advantage of the victim and sexually exploited her.
The charge reads: “That you Ayodele Faremi on September 13, 2022, at about 9:00 am at Dele Yes Sir Area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did unlawfully had sexual intercourse with one Korope Rose, aged 10 years.
“That you Ayodele Faremi, on the same date, time and place did unlawfully take undue advantage of one Korope Rose, aged 10 and sexually exploited her. That you (defendant), on the same date and time, did unlawfully and indecently assault one Korope Rose.”
Idoko said Faremi committed offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 31(1)(2), 32 and 360 of the Child’s Rights Law of Osun State 2007.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge bordering on defilement, indecent assault and rape. He was represented in court by a counsel, Kehinde Adepoju.
The Magistrate, O.A Daramola ordered the remand of the defendant in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till October 25.
It was gathered that Faremi was arrested on Sunday after the case was reported to Dada Estate Police Station, Osogbo by a relative of the victim simply identified as Folashade Ashafa.
Ashafa further alleged that her sister’s daughter was allegedly defiled when she was nine years old by Faremi.
She said Faremi continued to have carnal knowledge of the minor twice in the month of May and once in the month of August, 2022.
It was also learnt that the 68-year-old man gave a particular drug to the underage to drink whenever he finished his indecent act with her.
