Court Remands Man Over Alleged Impersonation, N4m Fraud

An Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Tuesday remanded 55-year-old Kehinde Adelabu in prison custody for claiming to be a senior officer of the Department of State Services (DSS) and defrauding job seekers to the tune of N4 million.

The court was informed that the accused person presented himself to no fewer than six job seekers as a Senior Officer in the Department of State Services and defrauded them with the intent of securing job for them.

The atrocities according to a State Counsel Mr. J. A. Ayanyemi were committed by Kehinde Adelabu at various towns in Osun State in 2018.

Ayanyemi said that the accused falsely presented himself as DSS Senior Officer to one Yinka Adeosun and defrauded her of the sum of N300,000 with the intent of securing enlistment with the service.

He added that the accused on Dec 18, 2018 at Owode Ede falsely represented himself as DSS Senior Officer to Ezekiel Idowu and defrauded him of the sum of N25,000 with the intention of recruiting him into DSS which after all was false.

According to him, the accused falsely presented himself as DSS Senior Officer to one Adeola Aderohunmu and defrauded her of the sum of N480,000 with the intent of securing job for her with the office of DSS.

The State Counsel stated that the accused falsely represented himself as DSS Senior Officer to one Olanrewaju Kafilat and defrauded her of the sum of N796,500 with the intent of securing the auctioning of rice with the office of DSS.

Ayanyemi expressed further that the accused impersonated himself as DSS senior officer to defraud her of the sum of N450,000 with the intent of securing enlistment with the service.

He explained that the accused represented himself as DSS senior officer to one Okolo Yemisi and defrauded her of the sum of N120,000 with the intent of securing enlistment with the service.

According to him, the accused defrauded Balogun Mohammed with the sum of N125,000 and impersonated himself as DSS senior officer, pledged to secure job for him with the service.

He stated further that the accused represented himself as DSS senior officer and defrauded one Amuda Adebayo with the sum of N488,000 with the intent of securing job for him.

The state Counsel said that the accused represented himself as DSS senior officer with the intent to use the office to dupe him of N200,000.

He added that the offence contravened sections 108 and 484 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused, who was not legally represented pleaded guilty to 13-count charge of impersonation and fraud.

Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi did not grant the bail application of the accused, but ordered for his remand in Ile-Ife prison custody as he adjourned the case until Jan 17, for presentation of fact.
