Court Jail Six Over Chieftaincy Matter In Osun
Six men have been sentenced to nine months in Nigeria Correctional Center each for installing one Chief Oladunjoye Abdullahi as Baale of Irepodun Community, Osogbo
Justice Sikiru Oke who convicted Akande Suleiman, Chief Oladunjoye Abdullahi, Isiaka Balogun, Prince Lateef Jayeola, Basiru Odomode and Adesina Oriyomi and jailed them without option of fine said the prosecutor has proved his case beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecutor, Moses Faremi during arraignment had told the court that the convicts and others at large on 25th day of January, 2017 at Irepodun Oke-Osun, Osogbo conspired to commit misdemeanors by performing the duty statutory and traditionally meant to be performed by Ataoja and his council members.
According to him, their conduct could cause a breach of peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 517, 249, of the criminal Code Law Cap 34 volume11 Laws of Osun State
He submitted that Chief Oladunjoye Abdullah not only allowed himself to be installed but paraded himself as Baale of Irepodun Community, Osogbo without the consent of the prescribed authority of incumbent Ataoja of Osogbo.
The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun had told the court that while he was preparing to install the Baale, he got a report that some people are installing another Baale at Irepodun and Akande Suleiman from Alaran’s compound, Osogbo made himself a kingmaker with some set of people and installed another person as Baale.
But the defence counsel Barrister Soji Oyetayo insisted that nobody claimed to be an eye witness of the installation and that Adewale Sikiru who claimed to have visited the said Irepodun Community on 26 day of January, 2017 did not state it in his extra judicial statement made when the event was fresher in his memory.
Oyetayo had told the court not to relied on such evidence and urged the court to resolve the sole issue formulated in favor of the defendants.
