Council, UNICEF Begin Move To End Violence Against Women, Girls
President of Christian Council of Nigeria and Vice President of the Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in West Africa (FECCIWA), Most Rev. Benebo Fubara-Manuel, has decried the level of violence and insecurity in the country, lamenting the inability of the government to provide shelter for vulnerable women and girls.
He also lamented the inability of the Federal Government to bring back a lot of women and girls in the enclave of Boko Haram sect and kidnappers.
Fubara-Manuel made these statements, yesterday, in Lagos during a press briefing on the kick-off of the efforts by the Christian Council of Nigeria in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) to end violence against women and girls.
He said that the Council, in collaboration with UNICEF, had agreed to work together on this EU-UN spotlight initiative on the role of faith-based organisations in ending violence against woman and girls, focusing particularly on the role of the Church.
“We have joined this collaboration because we realise that violence against women and girls is not what the churches or faith-based organisations alone can solve as it calls for multilateral efforts and initiatives, as well as every form of support in the right direction,” he said.
