Commuters Groan In Ibadan, As Luggage Train Derails

Commuters and motorists plying the Abeokuta –Ibadan expressway were yesterday subjected to harrowing experience as a luggage train derailed and got stuck at Omi-Adio railway crossing in Ibadan, Oyo State.

It was learnt that the incident, which occurred along Abeokuta-Ibadan road, caused major traffic jam that frustrated motorists.

It was further gathered that the train carrying about 20 Dangote Company containers derailed at the railway crossing and completely blocked off the road.

As a result, motorists on both sides of the scene were forced to turn back and seek alternative routes, to and from Abeokuta.

According to sources, the driver of the train could not be located at the scene of the incident.

Witnesses said he left by road for the railway terminus in Ibadan, about twenty minutes’ drive from the scene.

Commuters and motorists who spoke with our correspondent at separate interviews said that they have been stranded on the road and appealed to the relevant agencies to help remove the train.
