A Federal High Court, Wednesday, convicted and sentenced a businessman, Gilbert Chukwuemeka Kelvin, to seven years imprisonment, for unlawfully exportation of hard drug to South Africa.
Justice Jude Dagat, convicted and sentenced the businessman to the jail term, after founding him guilty of a count charge of unlawful exportation of methamphetamines, levelled against him by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The anti-narcotic agency in the charge marked FHC/L/446c/2014, alleged that the convict who was arrested at the departure hall of Murtala Muhammed international Airport, Ikeja-Lagos, while attempting to export 9.980 kilograms of Methamphetamines, to Johannesburg, South Africa.
During his arraignment sometimes in 2015, the prosecutor, Mr. Ichapa, had told the court that the offence is contrary to section and punishable 11(b) of National Drugs Laws Enforcement Agency Act, 2004.
The convict had pleaded not guilty to the charge, and he was granted bail.
However during his trial, the prosecution had tendered several documents and the seized drug, which was admitted as exhibit by the court. While the he also put up his defence.
Delivery judgment today, Justice Dagat, pronounced that the prosecution has been able to prove its case beyond every reasonable doubt, and pronounced him as guilty as charged.
The judge, consequently convicted and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment with seven years imprisonment with hard labour.
