35 –Year Old Man Bags 6 -Month Jail For Burglary

A 35-year-old bricklayer, Sunday Ajayi was on Tuesday  sentenced ‎to six months imprisonment for burglary.

The convict had jumped into the Oyo State Government House, Agodi and carted away items worth N535,000.00.

According to the prosecutor, Mr. Sunday Ogunremi the convict broke into the apartment of the anti-bomb squad and stole the items.

The convict had on July 31, 2018 been arraigned before the Magistrate’s Court, Iwo- road, presided over by Mr. Taiwo Olaniran ‎on a two-court charge of breaking and stealing in charge No MI/331c /2018.

Ogunremi told the court ‎that the convict on the 29th of July,  2018 at about 12:30pm at Government House, GRA Ibadan, did break into government staff room.

The Prosecutor said on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, “The convict did steal one wrist watch, four shirts, two trousers and EOD Binuocular property of anti-bomb section, Nigeria Police valued at N 535,000.00”.

Ogunremi said the offence was contrary and punishable under Section 411 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol.II laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

 The convict pleaded guilty to the offence.

The Magistrate, therefore asked the convict what has prompted him to go to that sensitive place like Government House?

In his response, the convict, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying it was work of the devil.

In his ruling, Magistrate Taiwo Olaniran sentenced him to six months imprisonment without option of fine to serve as deterrent to others.
