Osun CSDP Leads In Interventions For The Vulnerable In Nigeria
Osun Agency For Community and Social Development Project is ahead of other states of the federation in assisting the vulnerable in the society to be self-reliant.
This was disclosed Wednesday by the General Manager, Osun CSDP, Mrs Funmi Abokedeat at a two-day training programme for Journalists and Pressmen on CSDP interventions and language of operation as well as presentation of Osun CSDP scorecard in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
According to her only 5% contribution is expected as counterpart funding for the vulnerable groups unlike community-oriented project that requires 10% contributions by communities.
She noted that groups formed by the deaf, the dumb, people leaving with spinal cord injuries among others have benefited and are still benefiting from the intervention of Osun CSDP.
Mrs Abokede said the agency has in its ten years of existence, contributed towards the development of several communities in all thirty local government areas of the state and therefore, seeks partnership with the media to project their activities to the world.
She explained that the agency deemed it fit to organize the training in order to present the language of operation of the agency.
Delivering a lecture titled “expected roles of Pressmen /Journalist” Mrs Abokede insisted that it is wrong to report CSDP as implementing a project.
According to her, what CSDP does apart from ensuring that due process is followed to secure CSDP assistance, it only monitor and supervises project adding that it is the responsibility of communities to implement their project.
She noted that CSDP, an agency of Osun in partnership with the World Bank and the Federal Government has drawn a lot of people out of poverty.
Abokede thanked the governor of the state, Mr Gboyega Oyetola for his support to the agency despite the paucity of funds.
She in the same vein appreciated the World Bank for the trust and support, promising to ensure further effective utilization of the funds.
