Court Remands Woman Over Baby Theft In Osun

For allegedly stealing an 18-day old baby, an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife,  on Thursday, remanded  one Mrs Adebayo Bunmi, 27, in prison custody

The Prosecutor, Insp Ona Glory had told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 1, 2018 around 05:30 pm at Itasin Area, Modakeke in Ife Northeast local government area of Osun state.

Glory said that the accused stole an 18-day baby boy, Adebode David ,son of Mr & Mrs  Adebode Peter with intent to deprive the couple permanently of the baby who is their source of joy..

He added that the offence contravened section 371 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused who agreed to be tried by the court however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of baby stealing.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo, applied for the bail of the accused in most libral term and pledged that his client would not jump bail, but provide credible  sureties.

But Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji refused the bail of the suspect but rather asked the Defence Counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo, to come with written application for the consideration of her bail.

The Magistrate thereafter ordered for the remand of the suspect in Ilesa prison custody, pending the ruling of the bail application, as she adjourned the case till July 23, for mention.
