Ayade Meets IGP, Seeks Better Policing Of Cross River
Cross River State Governor, Benedict Ayade, has sought Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali’s support in better policing and security for investors and people of the state.
The governor, who congratulated the IGP over his recent appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari, said he (Alkali) deserved it as a sterling cop with broad experience and qualities needed to police the country.
Pointing out the need to keep it as one of the peaceful states in the country, Ayade said: “Presently, we are embarking on massive industrialisation and building critical infrastructure in the state and to maximise the economic gains of the projects, security is crucial.”
“Without proper and result-oriented security strategy, our state would not be attractive for investments. No investor would want to put his money in an insecure environment.”
Ayade, who cited last year’s #EndSARS protests in which public and private property were destroyed in the state, noted that a more proactive policing would be required to effectively check crime and criminality in the country.
Responding, the IGP pledged to collaborate with the state government to usher in a new dawn of policing in the state and commended Ayade for his efforts at making the state safe and peaceful.
