Army Announces Education Sponsorship For Children Of Deceased Personnel
The Nigerian Army has announced that it will conduct screening and verification for the education sponsorship of children of deceased personnel for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The troop made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, stating that the exercise is scheduled to take place in Abuja from January 29 to March 29, 2024, at the Army Headquarters Command Officers Mess 1 Asokoro, Abuja.
“This sponsorship is one of the welfare schemes in the Nigerian Army. The Nigerian Army Education Sponsorship is aimed at guaranteeing primary, secondary, and tertiary education for the children of deceased personnel who died in active service.”
It noted that all prospective new applicants, beneficiaries upgrading their educational levels, and those who were absent during the 2022–2023 Screening and Verification Exercise are expected to participate in this crucial process for the upcoming academic session.
“This will ensure the beneficiaries are properly captured to get the appropriate sponsorship funds for respective educational levels.”
The army added that the screening and verification dates for applicants will be communicated via Short Message Service (SMS).
As part of the process, the Nigerian Army has specified the documents that will be used for screening and verification.
These include a handwritten application for sponsorship containing the names of the children, a letter of admission for the beneficiary, the last school report card/results of the beneficiary, a letter of confirmation from the school, University or polytechnic that the child/beneficiary is a pupil or a student, a birth certificate for the beneficiary, and a death certificate for the deceased personnel.
Others include orders of publication of death, condolence letters, notification of casualties (NOTICAS) signals, the Nigerian Army Application for Sponsorship form, duly completed by the last unit and formation headquarters of the deceased personnel, four recent passport photographs of the beneficiaries, passport photographs of the deceased personnel, bank account numbers and sort codes, and the telephone number of the beneficiary’s surviving parent or administrator.
