Aregbesola Assures On Transformation Of Osun
Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola on Saturday promised the people of the state to expect massive development of the state in the next 367 days that marks the end of his two term tenure of governance in the state.
He said this at Osogbo township stadium during the grand finale of Calisthenics competition to commemorate the seventh year anniversary of his administration.
Aregbesola said extracurricular activities in schools across the state would help in adding value to the education sector and also ensure standards.
He disclosed that 28,000 students have so far been trained for the Calisthenics display, saying that the exercise has improved the health, agility and mentality of the students.
“We introduced this programme in 2012 and we have so far trained 28,000 students. We are inculcating the spirit of unity, team work, hardworking in the lives of the students through Calisthenics. We are planning, preparing them to be of world class standards.
Commending parents of the students for their support, Aregbesola said the parents for the first time supported the programme by willingly buying the costumes for the students.
He explained that the prizes given to the participants were to develop sporting facilities in their various schools.
The finale of the calisthenics display witnessed three participants from Osun East senatorial districts, Osun West Senatorial districts and Osun central senatorial districts.
The governor presented a sum of N2 million to the winner who came first while the second and third runners up went home with N1 million and N750,000 respectively.
He said the cash awards would be used to developed sporting facilities in schools across the senatorial districts.
Meanwhile, after the Senatorial display, Osun Central won with a prize of N2m, West came second with a prize of N1m and Osun East third with a prize of N750,000.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the state Commissioner for Education, Mr. Kola Omotunde-Young, disclosed that 6,071 students were drawn in 22 middle schools across the nine federal constituencies in the state for the Calisthenics.
He said the event was another testimony that Aregbesola’s administration is ‘unique’ and dedicated to the improvement of students’ education and good living.
