APC Holds Two Parallel Congresses In Ogun, As Hoodlums Attack  Amosun Congress Venue

By Olu Osikoya

Pandemonium broke out on Saturday when some hoodlums invaded Ake Palace ground, the venue where a faction of the All Progressives Congress loyal to Senator Ibikunle Amosun was holding its congress in Ogun State.

The thugs who invaded the venue shot into the air to disperse the loyalists of Amosun, a former governor of the state.

It was gathered that the venue had earlier been sealed by the police in the state, but was later reopened.

Amosun’s loyalists, drawn from all the local government areas of the state, were just settling down for the business of the day when the thugs invaded the venue.

While the violence was breaking out at Ake Palace, the other faction of the APC loyal to the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, was peacefully having its own congress at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

Our correspondent gathered that the violence was allegedly perpetrated by some members of the transportation union in the state.

However, the policemen who were at the Ake Palace could not resist the thugs that invaded the venue.

The thugs were later resisted by some Amosun loyalists who went on to confront the police and tried to send them away for not protecting them during the violence.

This action angered the police who later gathered momentum and started shooting into the air.

Calm later returned to the place when Amosun’s loyalists regrouped and continued the congress exercise.

Both Abiodun and Amosun have been at daggers drawn over the APC state structure ahead of the 2023 election.

The two factions had held ward and local government congresses and are set to produce state party executives.
