Angry Mob Beat 84 -Year Old Suspected Kidnapper To Coma In Ondo
For attempting to kidnap a young pupil on Thursday in Odosida area of Ondo state, a 84- year old man, identified as Taiwo Ayinde, was beaten to a coma by an angry mob.
It was learnt that the suspected kidnapper was caught by the residents of the area while trying to escape with the little boy.
According to witnesses, the grandfather was caught with the kid while dragging him to an unknown destination from the area at about 11 a.m.
The old man, according to the residents, was dragged round the area by the angry mob to ascertain his identity before he was forced to confess to the crime and got beaten.
They said, “The old man was caught by one of the residents in the area, while dragging the little boy to an unknown destination. Immediately, an alarm was raised when it became suspicious that the boy does not know the old man, judging from his behaviour. He was nearly lynched, but thank God for the timely intervention of the police who quickly came to rescue him from the angry mob.”
Some officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Enu Owa Police Station, Mr. Express Omoigui, were almost lynched by the angry mob.
While confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said that the suspected old man was moved to Akure, the headquarters of the police, after the incident was reported.
Joseph disclosed that an investigation into the case has also begun, adding that the suspect has now been kept in custody.
His words, “The information I was able to gather from the DPO is that the old man was caught by some residents for attempting to kidnap a little child in the area.”
“In that process, they pounced on the suspect, beating him to a pulp with even an attempt to lynch him to death. We have commenced investigation into the matter and the man has been moved down to our office here in Akure.
“Although, his family members have also come forward to say he (suspect) is a mentally deranged person, but we have asked them to go and bring documents to truly show that he is sick. “
