Amosun Reads Riot Act To Land Grabbers In Ogun

The Ogun State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun has warned residents of the state still engrossed in Land grabbing and speculation to desist from it or face the full wrath of the law.

The governor gave the warning when the Baala Banjoko family of Onigbongbo town in Ado/Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State cried to the state government to deliver them from attacks by land grabbers who have for sometime terrorised the town and illegally selling their land.

The family led by Prince Adebola Oloyede had  narrated how the thugs hired by one Sule aka Sars has continued to subject the family members to physical harm.

Amidst tears, the prince, a member of the Aluketefogunjo arm of the Baala Banjoko Family in Onigbongbon town said some time late last year, he went to check the 3000 acres of land belonging to his family but thugs stationed there  turned him to punching bag.

He and other family members who carried placards with  inscriptions telling their ordeal, appealed to the State governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun to save them from further attacks by thugs and the family land from forceful possession by land grabbers.

Oloyede and his people also presented to the Governor, a Petition written on their behalf by their counsel, Mr Ayodele Omoniyi, where they listed eight descendants of Akindele unit of Baala Banjoko family – whom they accused of engaging suspected landgrabbers to sell the family land without the knowledge of the Aluketefogunjo arm.

After listening to their plight, governor  Amosun represented by his  Chief of Staff, Tolu Odebiyi, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, who addressed them on behalf of the Governor, assured them that the state government would look critically into their plights.

Odebiyi also reminded them that a law against land grabbing now exist in Ogun and said the state government would summon the other party and get their side of the matter before taking appropriate position.

“This is a case of an illegal land grabbing issue, which is even against the law . There is a law, enacted by the government against this. What we intend to do is to invite the people that are involved in this act.

“We will lay before them, the petitions that have been placed before us. The governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, is very much against this. It is not going to be tolerated because it is an illegal act.

“It is an area that is well known to us in Onigbongbo. The matter is going to be looked into and we have told them that they should not recourse to violence to remain calm. The details have been received here at the governor’ s office and we are going to look into it,” Odebiyi said.
