Amosun Lights Up Community After 25 Years
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has lighted up Gbamugbamu Community in Ijebu-East Local Government Area of the state with the commissioning of 85KW Solar Hybrid Mini Power Grid after 25 years of unconnected to the national power grid.
Amosun who described the commissioning of the power project, a collaboration with the European Union (EU) and German Government, under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), anchored by the German Agency For International Development (GIZ) as another milestone to his government, noted that it was also in tandem with one of his five cardinal programmes, aimed at reducing unemployment in the state and provision of jobs opportunity for the teeming youths through provision of regular power supply.
“Our belief is that the provision of state power supply will boost socio-economic activities of our people, promote employment generation by enhancing and scaling up of Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMSEs), promote value chain development; and reduce rural-urban migration”, Amosun said.
He assured that his government would continue to collaborate with private investors and developmental partners to continually make the state conducive and secure for businesses and for the foreign investor to operate in the state, adding that the government would mobilize contractors to commence Ogbere/Gbamugbamu road which would stand the test of time, and improve development that the solar mini grid has brought to the community.
In his remarks, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), represented by the Honourable Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Surv. Suleiman Hassan Zarma, said the project would improve the standard of living of people, noting that Federal Government would continue to engage the genuine private sectors on vibrant project for the betterment of Nigerians as a whole.
Also, the Chairman Rubitech Limited, Mr. Bolade Shoremekun, in his speech appreciated the state government for the prospect given to them in establishing the power plants in their domain, and with the project the state would continue to secure for businesses to thrive, noted that their presence in Gbamugbamu community would not only tackle epileptic power supply but also bring about rapid development and employment generation to the teeming youths of the area.
Shoremekun disclosed that a total number of 550 households would be benefited from the project, added that the Solar Hybrid Mini Grid in the community comprised of 85KW Solar, 45KW Diesel generator with the electricity distributed of over 5.2KW Mini Grid with metering for payment serving the whole community.
The European Union representative, Kurt Cornelius, Consular General to Germany, Ingo Herbert and the Consular General to USA, John Bray unanimously said that the project would positively make life meaningful for the residents of that community and bring about a great development for its populace and its environs, admonished the rural dwellers to ensure the sustainability of the project through proper maintenance.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Baale of Gbamugbamu, Chief Adekunle Fayomi as well as the Chairman, Ijebu-East Central Local Council Development Area, Barr. Adebayo Osikomaya hailed the state government and partners for the brand gesticulation, noting that so many businesses would spiral awake and the existing ones would thrive, thereby increasing the socio-economic activities of the area.
