Ambode Vows To Make Protection Of Lives And Property Top Priority

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has promised to make the protection of Lives and property a major priority of his Administration, just as he reiterated Government’s commitment towards improving emergency management in Lagos State
Represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Lagos State, Hon Oluseye Oladejo during the commissioning of the LASEMA Response Unit in Lekki, the Governor said the State Response Units were positioned to effectively coordinate, receive and respond to distress calls.
While highlighting the fact that Lagos has come a long way in improving the Golden Hour, since his assumption of office, Ambode said the new dispatch centre was in continuation of the fulfilment of the promised to continuously and relentlessly promote safety and emergency management culture by adopting best practices and deploying world class resources.
Governor Ambode who reiterated the importance his Administration attaches to safety and security of lives and property, said that the Lekki Response Unit was strategically located to facilitate quick response to emergencies on the waterways and for proximity to riverine areas of the state. He also said construction works is currently going on at two other Response Units, added.
He explained that the Government has also scaled up the activities of its Monitoring and Surveillance Unit so as to further equip them to be able to prevent and mitigate against unnecessary loss of lives and properties, this he said” a paradigm shift from the orthodox strategy of waiting for emergency to occur and respond”.
Also speaking at the formal launch, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr Adeshina Tiamiyu said the commissioning of the Unit which is very significant in many respects is proof to show that Government is deeply committed to ensure prompt response to emergencies in a bid to save lives and properties of Lagosians.
He recalled that the Agency in the last one year had responded to numerous fire incidents, road accidents, flooding, illegal parked trucks, gas explosion/emission amongst other emergencies in record time, thereby saving lots of lives and properties worth millions of naira.
While commiserating with residents who might have lost valuables and loved ones to any of these disasters, the General Manager, also, acknowledged the tremendous support of His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who has continued to motivate men and women who have been on alert day and night responding promptly to these emergencies.
Some of the invited guests are members of the state executive council, Members of the State House of Assembly, Sole Administrators, Heads of various Parastatals, Traditional, Religious and Political  leaders amongst others.
