Ambode was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Pharm. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf said this at the year 2017 Christmas Carol /Concert in Alausa. He said supporting vulnerable children will help them attain their dreams and goals in life.
He noted that the entire society owes the children every right of moulding them into independent and responsible adults through providing for their basic needs, building God-trust, encouraging them irrespective of their status.
“Let’s all encourage these children and give them all assurance that they can think creatively, critically. Through these they will become problem solver which will translate into development of our state and Nigeria. ”
“we are committed to improving lives of citizenry. We will continue ensuring Lagos is an assessible society for all, where children are independent. ”
Ambode stated that his administration will continue working strategically towards zero tolerance towards affairs concerning safety and security of Lagos residents especially children who are the future of the nation.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola said the Christmas Carol /Concert is aimed at providing children with opportunity to showcase talents, showing them government is interested in them.
He said vulnerable children welfare which includes education, shelter and other basic needs catered by the government is to ensure children grow in a beautiful environment where they a better life of possibilities of being future champions.
Muri-Okunola appealed to members of public to support government to well-being of children at all six male and female correctional centres in the state.
The Carol lesson was taken from the book of Isiah chapter 9 verses 2-7 by the Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Adesoye which summarizes the prophesy of prophet Isiah that a Messiah will be born who will take the yoke of his people, bearing government on his shoulder and dealing with all in justice and righteousness.
Highlights of the event includes presentations of Carol songs and drama from joint choir and drama group from state owned correctional centres. Other events included mimming /choreography, testimonies of released children from wards.
