Ali Modu Sherif Group In Edo Dumps PDP For APC

Thousands of members of the Alli Modu Sherif faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State Friday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and claimed that Edo state is now a one party state.

Led by its governorship candidate in the 2016 governorship election in the state, Matthew Iduoriyekenmwen, the member representing Ikpoba Okha/Egor in the House of Representatives, Johnson Agbonayinma, former member of the State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku and several others, they said they left the PDP because of impunity.

Iduoriyekenmwen said he saw sincerity in the state government, just as he commended former Governor, Adams Oshiomhole for a laying a foundation for the development of the state.

“You all know that I resigned from the PDP since September 2017 and I decided to watch and see. I wanted to be governor of the state and if you have somebody that is doing what will do and even doing it better, you have to join him. We believe that our children must have education, government must make life meaningful for the people, I see sincerity in this government, I see sincerity in Governor Obaseki, I see that he doesn’t need distraction, we think that all we can do is to join him in developing the state. Those of us that will have opposed him, we said we will join him to make the state better so whether you like it or not, Edo state is now a one party state, I want to thank Oshiomhole for providing the leadership”

On his part, Agbonahinma blasted the PDP leaders for making impunity and lack of adherence to the principles of rule of law their watchword.

While addressing the crowd, Oshiomhole urged Nigerians not to despair, as the President Muhammadu Buhari government continue to lead the country out of the present challenges confronting the economy, warning those, who fan the embers of ethnic and religious crises to have a rethink and come together for a peaceful and united nation.

He said there was need for the APC to extend its hold to neighbouring Delta State “in the spirit of Bendel. We have secured Edo, now we must advance to Delta, we must take more brooms to Asaba and sweep to Warri so that the resources of Delta will be used for the people of Delta state.”

“I have faith in Nigeria, we must stop the looters; if there is no pain, and there will be no gain. Today’s pain will bring gain tomorrow. Say no to those who are preaching religious as a means to divide us. We have secured Edo state and we will advance.”

While welcoming the defectors, who had been received by the state chairman of APC, Anselm ojezua, Governor Obaseki said they are all one with the APC with the common purpose to drive the state towards growth and development.

“We don’t have new joiners; they are part of us; no difference no demarcation, new comer, everybody is the same.”
