State Congress: Akwa Ibom APC Screening Committee Begins Work
Ahead of its October 16, 2021 congress to elect State Officers, the screening committee constituted by the Dr. Ita Udosen-led State Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akwa Ibom State today kicked-off a rigorous screening exercise of aspirants at the party’s State Secretariat.
Some of the issues raised during the screening bothered on the proof of party membership, genuineness of certificates, evidence of payment for nomination forms, loyalty to the party, as well as aspirants’ political backgrounds.
The 3-man Committee is Chaired by Hon. Justice Andrew Okon (rtd), Hon. Justice Ekerette Ebienye (rtd) as Secretary and Barr. Emmanuel Isangidoho (Member) promised that the committee would strictly abide by the party’s guidelines and regulations for the screening.
“We are going to be diligent, honest, thorough, and transparent. So, we seek aspirants’ co-operation in that regard,” the Chairman said.
Also, justifying the thoroughness of the screening, Dr. Udosen stressed that “the responsibility of the screening committee is to interact with all those who have purchased nomination forms to occupy various State Offices”.
He added that the screening panel will determine those that meet the criteria for the forthcoming State Congress and thereafter forward it’s report to SEC for onward submission to the Screening Appeal Committee headed by Barr. Edet Eyo Bassey to hear and determine any petition thereof on Friday, October 15, 2021.
The screening exercise will end on Thursday, October 14, 2021 as stipulated in the State Congress timetable while the final list of contestants cleared will be published on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the State Secretariat, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The screened aspirants, however, described the process as tough and transparent and expressed confidence in the committee.
