Akeredolu Donates Cash To Families Of Slain Soldiers
Following the recent killing of three soldiers by some militants in Ajakpa community area of Ondo state, the State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), on Thursday donated cash to the families of the slain soldiers
Akeredolu who also used the occasion to condole with the Nigerian Army over the ugly incident, described the death of the military personnel as regrettable.
The governor during condolence visit to the Commanding Officer of the 19 Battalion, Okitipupa, said the state government would continue to provide logistics support for the military and other security agencies to carry out their functions of protecting the people.
Akeredolu, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Security, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, urged them not to relent in their effort to flush out criminals from the state.
Responding, the Commanding Officer, 19 Battalion, Lt.-Col. Maaji, who was represented by Captain Michael Ogundele, thanked the governor for sharing in the grief of the Nigerian Army at this difficult time.
He assured the governor of the military’s commitment to the discharge of their duties.
The state government gave the sum of N250, 000 to the soldier who sustained bullet wounds and N500,000 each to the families of the three soldiers killed in the shootout between soldiers and militants.
It will be recalled that the three soldiers lost their lives while many others were left injured during a gun battle between militants and troops of the Nigerian Army at Ajakpa community in Ondo State.
Peace has since returned to the area, while the government and the security agencies are working together to ensure that such sad incident does not repeat itself again.
