Akeredolu Denies Stopping Christians From Using Facilities
The Ondo State Government on Thursday denied a report published in the national dailies that it denied members of the Niger Delta Christian Leaders Forum (NDCLF), from using the state owned International Culture Event Centre, DOME in Akure, for their programmes.
The state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, made the clarification while receiving members of the Nigeria Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), led by their President, Bishop Felix Omobude, who were on a courtesy visit to his office.
PFN members are in the state for their annual national conference.
Akeredolu, who was represented by his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, explained that the said event centre had already been booked for the second Niger Delta Summit hosted by the state at the time the NDCLF approached the management of the event centre for usage.
He noted that the one week event of the Niger Delta Summit was declared opened by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
He added that the government was ready to give out the MKO Abiola Democracy Park in Akure for free since the DOME event centre has been occupied.
Akeredolu however wondered why it would be reported in the national dailies that the government denied Christians from using the event centre.
The governor reiterated his commitment to ensuring peaceful coexistence among religious bodies in the state, urging religious leaders to continue to pray for the unity of the country.
Earlier, Omobude said that he was in the state in continuation of tour of states of the federation to preach the message of peace and to pray for the people of the state and the government.
He commended the state government on good governance initiatives, saying he was a product of good governance and enjoyed free education programme introduced by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the Western Region of Nigeria.
