Ajakaye Wants Implementation Of 2014 National Conference Report
The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Femi Ajakaye, has said the 2014 National Conference report will move Nigeria forward, if revisited and implemented to the fullest.
Bishop Ajakaye who spoke at a service held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ado-Ekiti, to commemorate the 2017 World’s Communications Day said implementing the report will curb and solve so many problems threatening the cooperate existence of Nigeria and nip in the bud agitation for self determination and recognition by some groups in the country.
In his sermon, tagged “Fear not, for I am with you”, taking from the Book Is. 43;5 and Pope Francis message , entitled “Communicating Hope and Trust in our Time”, Bishop Ajakaye, also urged newsmen in the country to always project good news and not bad news.
According to him, “to engage in constructive forms of communication that rejects prejudice towards others and foster a culture of encounter, helping all to view the world around us with realism and trust.
“We have to break the vicious circle of anxiety and stem the spiral of fear resulting from a constant focus on bad news (wars, terrorism, scandals and all sorts of human failure)”.
The cleric noted that all newsmen must work at overcoming that feeling of growing discontent and resignation that can at times generate apathy, fear or the idea that evil has no limits.
Bishop Ajakaye, who commended the Ekiti State and the federal government for recognizing the late Governor of the Western region, Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo, also urged them to extend same to late Col. Adekunle Fajuyi, whom he said worked hard for the unity of the country.
He also criticized members of the national assembly for increasing their own budget in the recently passed federal budget of 2017, calling on the political class to always think of the masses in their day to day policies by making their welfare their priority.
