Agric Sector Can Rescue Nigeria’s Economy, Says Akeredolu
Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said that the nation’s agricultural sector has the potential to be the mainstay of the nation’s economy, if well harnessed
Akeredolu said that there are windows of opportunities in the Agriculture sector which provides hope for positive development of Nigeria in spite of current economic and socio-political challenges
The governor stated this in Akure, during a presentation by members of Peace Aid Project (PAP) on Youth and Women Empowerment In Aquaculture Livestock Farming initiative.
He said that the country will soon attain its prime position with various initiatives by different groups to boost the economy of Nigeria through agricultural business and other business ideas in the country.
Akeredolu, who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Agboola Ajayi said “very soon, we will no longer be afraid of the price of crude oil in the international market. We have the potentials to make agriculture the mainstay of our economy.
“I see hope in the future of Nigeria. We have now gotten to that crucial stage in our national life, where everyone has now come to the realization that Agribusiness is the way to go. Honestly, I see hope in Nigeria in no distance future.”
On his part, the Founder and CEO of PAP, Mr. Benson Emakpor , said that the project focused on government policy to create a “Nigeria beyond Oil ” through agriculture.
Emakpor explained that PAP initiative aims to use novel ideas to encourage youths and women to go into modern mechanised farming as well as create wealth for people and generate IGR for the state.
He added that the projects are aimed at establishing mechanised livestock farms in rural areas to empower women and youths as well as the communities where the farms are located.
