Again, Trump Jokes About Seeking Another Presidential Term

President Donald Trump on Friday night, again joked about seeking a fourth term in the White House, telling attendees at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington DC, that he intended to make the announcement as a “scoop.”

Speaking at the rescheduled dinner held at the Waldorf Astoria, Trump donned a red “Trump 2028” cap as he delivered the remarks in a clip shared on X by an account identified as RapidResponse47 on Saturday.

“I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop my intention to run for a fourth term as President of the United States. I will be doing that. I will be having an official… It should be easy. I’m getting very good at running for president,” Trump said.

The president went on to talk of victory in the 2020 election, which he lost to Joe Biden.

“I won three times. Did very well the second time, by the way. It’s a rigged election, but we’ll have to talk about it,” he said.

Under the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, a president is barred from being elected to more than two terms, making a further run constitutionally impossible.

Friday’s dinner marked Trump’s first appearance at the annual event as president, having boycotted it throughout his first term and the initial stretch of his second. The gathering had been postponed from an earlier date in April after gunfire disrupted the event, forcing an evacuation of guests, including Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. A suspect was subsequently arrested.

The rescheduled dinner was held under tightened security at the Waldorf Astoria, departing from the Washington Hilton, which had hosted the event for 58 years.
