Adeleke’s Death: INEC Claims Ignorance
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has claimed ignorance of the death of former chairman, Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo yesterday shortly after the flag off of the ongoing registration of voters for certain categories of eligible voters, the Administrative Secretary, Barrister Emmanuel Ademusire noted that the commission has not been officially informed of the demise of the late senator.
Ademusire who ordered a minute silence in honour of the late senator said, INEC would commence the process for the election of a substitute according to the electoral law immediately the commission was informed by his party.
He however doubt the participation of those currently been registered by INEC in the bye election on the ground that the voters register used in the 8th Senate would be used for the election
The Administrative Secretary called on those who have attained eighteen years of age and are not yet registered and those who for one reason or the other did not register in the last registration exercise and are of age to come out enmass to register at the INEC office of the local government of their preference.
While warning intending registrants on the consequence of multiple registration, the Administrative Secretary said whosoever is caught engaging in any form of electoral malpractice during the continuous exercise would be prosecuted accordingly.
