Implement People-Oriented Programmes- Abiodun Charges Transition Committee Members

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has charged the newly inaugurated Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen and other members to complement government’s efforts in translating the people-oriented policies of the present administration, to improve the welfare of the people.

          Prince Abiodun gave the charge at the swearing-in ceremony of Chairmen and members of the Local Government Councils Transition Committees, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, urging them to see their appointments as transitory and settle down to duty, in order to actualise the dreams and aspirations of the people.

          He noted that the tasks before the chairmen were enormous, pointing out that it would be achievable and rewarding, if it was done contentiously, in line with the principles of due process by spending funds at their disposal with prudence.

          “Let me also inform you that you have no absolute power but ensure that you operate in line with due process at all times. We will incorporate a system of check and balances, your activities will be put under intense watch while the transition lasts, all your actions and inactions are under scrutiny.

          “You are to apply the funds at your disposal with prudence and undertake developmental projects that touch the life of our people very positively, by doing this, your leadership can quickly make its mark in areas of roads, primary education, health care, sanitation and refuse collection in markets, with enhanced revenue generation, among others”, he said.

          He urged traditional rulers, community leaders and people in the various Local Governments to support the constituted transition committees in creating a fresh chapter for good governance at the grassroots level and the successful implementation of this administration’s ’Building Our Future Together’ agenda.

          Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuwape, noted that the process would bring governance closer to the people at the grassroots to enable them to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

          Responding on behalf of the Chairmen, Transition Chairman for Odeda Local Government, Hon. Bola Lawal, said they would be diligent and ensure development is spread across various local councils.
