The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has suspended its 50-day industrial action for an initial period of eight weeks following the intervention of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a letter of appreciation jointly signed by the the President, ARD Dr. Mustapha Adedapo, PRO- Dr Abdulrahman Fofie and the Assistant general secretary, ARD, Dr oladayo Bada on Friday and addressed to the Chief of Staff to the governor, the association expressed its “profound gratitude and appreciation” to the governor for his “timely intervention, statesmanship, and commitment towards resolving the issues that led to the industrial action.”

The ARD highlighted the governor’s visit to the hospital and a stakeholders’ meeting held on October 15, 2026 at the Gangway Hall under his chairmanship.

“The presence of key government officials, members of the hospital board, the leadership of the State House of Assembly, and other stakeholders underscored the seriousness and sincerity of government in addressing the longstanding concerns raised by healthcare workers,” the letter stated.

During the meeting, the association presented its major demands, which included the Medical Residency Training Act (MRTA), payment of the 2025 Minimum Wage Arrears, and implementation of the Revised Professional Allowance Table (PAT).

The ARD specifically commended the governor for several commitments: approving that the 2025 Minimum Wage Arrears be paid on or before mid-November 2026; directing the constitution of a multi-stakeholder committee to develop modalities for the implementation of the Professional Allowance Table within six weeks; and ensuring the Medical Residency Training Act Bill is passed on or before 28 October 2026, with assent expected within the first week of November 2026.

“These commitments demonstrate His Excellency’s dedication to strengthening the healthcare system in Oyo State, improving the welfare of healthcare workers, and ensuring quality healthcare delivery to the people of the state,” the association said.

Following an Emergency General Meeting on October 16, 2026, members reviewed the outcomes of the discussions.

“In recognition of the Governor’s goodwill and the ongoing efforts of the Government and Hospital Management toward resolving our demands, the Association resolved to suspend its fifty (50)-day industrial action for an initial period of eight (8) weeks,” the letter noted.

All resident doctors have been directed to resume full clinical duties on Saturday, October 17 2026.

The ARD assured the governor of its “continued commitment to constructive engagement, industrial harmony, and the provision of quality healthcare services to the people of Oyo State.”

It added: “We are optimistic that the commitments made will be implemented within the agreed timelines and that this marks the beginning of a lasting resolution to the concerns of our members.”
