YABATECH Launches Monthly Staff Fitness Exercise To Promote Health, Productivity

Rector, Management pledge sustained commitment to staff wellbeing

Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), has introduced a monthly staff fitness exercise aimed at promoting healthy living, improving staff wellbeing and enhancing productivity among employees of the institution.

The exercise, which will hold on the first Wednesday of every month, was initiated under the leadership of the Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, as part of efforts to encourage regular physical activity and foster a healthier workforce.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Abdul expressed delight that the initiative had finally commenced after earlier administrative preparations, noting that the need to prioritise staff health had become increasingly evident.

He explained that the exercise was designed to remind staff that workplace effectiveness goes beyond lectures, paperwork and routine administrative responsibilities, stressing the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal wellbeing.

According to the Rector, while the college-organised exercise would take place monthly, staff members were encouraged to cultivate the habit of exercising regularly on their own.

He commended employees who participated in the inaugural session and expressed optimism that the programme would be sustained, urging them to remain physically active and look forward to subsequent editions.

The Rector also encouraged participants to share their experiences and provide feedback to help the institution improve the programme and attract greater participation from staff across departments.

The Director, Sports, Yaba College of Technology, Mr Peter Oyebanji, in his opening remarks said that the medical fitness is all about the monthly work exercise.

Stating that it is “to ensure that we are in the right frame of mind. We are not just marking scripts. We are not just lecturing. We are not just writing memos, because it’s time to work. We are very privileged to have here with us the rector of the college”.

The College Medical Director, Dr. Nubi T in his address declared that the medical walk will count later in life as research has shown that if you take certain steps in a day, daily, it will add to about three, four years to your life that you are going to spend on this earth. So it is something that we need to do.

Even if you have prostate, if you have cancer, name it, all disease, even hypertension, if you continue to do exercise, it has a way of affecting those diseases in our system. So we will encourage us that we keep on doing it; he advised.

The Registrar of the college, Mrs. Henrietta Adebola Badejo, speaking on behalf of the Governing Council and Management, expressed appreciation to staff members who turned up for the inaugural exercise.

Badejo reaffirmed Management’s support for the initiative, assuring participants that the programme would continue, adding that staff health and wellbeing remained important to the institution.

She commended the organisers for their efforts and thanked employees for their participation, while wishing them a productive working day.
