No fewer than 1,000 Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) Muslim students on Saturday participated in the 2026 Career Mentorship Programme (CMP) scholarship examination organised by the Standard Bearers Islamic Organization (SB).

The examination, which is part of the organisation’s efforts to promote academic excellence among Muslim students, was conducted across designated centres in different parts of Nigeria.

The students, who are in SS3, were tested in Mathematics and English Language through a Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Our correspondent gathered that 693 candidates sat for the examination at five centres on Saturday, while 334 candidates are expected to write the examination at two other centres on Saturday, October 10, 2026, bringing the total number of registered candidates to 1,027.

The centres where the examination was conducted included Tenderfoot Islamic Path Secondary School, Igboya, Ile-Ife, where 79 candidates were in attendance; Al-Falaah Model College, KM4, Gbongan/Ibadan Express Road, opposite OSAMDO Events Hall, Osogbo, where 68 candidates sat for the examination; Lamp Bearers Islamic School, Ilorin, with 387 candidates; Centre for Gender Studies, Bayero University, Kano, with 126 candidates; and Muslim Comprehensive College, Sabo Irojo, Ilesa, where 33 candidates participated.

Meanwhile, 128 candidates in Akure at Al-Mahaarah Schools and 206 candidates in Abuja at the National Mosque ICT Centre are scheduled to write the examination on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

Speaking on the conduct of the examination, the Director of the CMP, Mr Gidado Habib, described the exercise as smooth and hitch-free

Habib said the examination was conducted in line with the objectives of the Career Mentorship Programme, adding that the organisation was impressed with the level of preparedness and conduct of the candidates.

He disclosed that the cut-off mark and results of the examination would be announced soon, adding that students who distinguish themselves through outstanding performances would be rewarded with scholarship opportunities.

According to him, the aim of the programme is to develop the intellectual capacity of Muslim students while creating a healthy academic rivalry among them.

He explained that the questions were prepared in accordance with the standards of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and were within the expected academic capacity of SS3 students, which is one of the criteria for participating in the examination.

The CMP Director further expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the candidates, noting that their comportment during the examination demonstrated their preparedness and seriousness towards the programme.

He said the organisation would continue to support initiatives that promote academic excellence, mentorship and career development among Muslim students.

One of the candidates, Lawal Ibrahim, who spoke with our correspondent after completing his examination, described the exercise as well organised.

Ibrahim said the questions were challenging but within the expected standard for SS3 students, adding that he was able to answer a good number of them.

He expressed optimism that he would perform well in the examination and emerge among the successful candidates who would benefit from the scholarship programme.

The Career Mentorship Programme is an initiative of the Standard Bearers Islamic Organization designed to identify, mentor and support promising Muslim students through academic, scholarship and career-development opportunities.
