Diaspora Centre Holds Webinar On Migrants Voting On Thursday
The African Diaspora Resource and Research Centre, University of Ibadan in conjunction with Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) will on Thursday focus why Nigeria has yet to enact a legal framework for diaspora voting.
The monthly seminar series entitled “Do Migrants Vote? aimed at examining why Nigeria migrants despite its growing demographic and political relevance is yet to put in place diaspora voting.
Leading the team of experts is Dr Olaolu Peter Oluwasanmi who will be talking about the Nigerian State and the Politics of Diaspora (Dis)Enfranchisement.
The virtual seminar, scheduled for September 24, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. (WAT), will examine issues surrounding political participation, voting rights and diaspora enfranchisement among Nigerians living outside the country.
Other experts include Dr. Abdulrahman Terab, Head of Technology, Transfer, Innovation and Investment, NiDCOM, as a discussant while Dr. Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, Executive Secretary, Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs will moderate.
The Director of the Centre and renowned Professor of Diaspora Studies, Professor Senayon Olaoluwa is hosting the webinar amidst other scholars.
NiDCOM’s participation underscores its commitment to supporting informed dialogue on issues affecting Nigerians in the diaspora and promoting greater understanding of diaspora engagement in national development.
