Falconets Draw South Korea In Final World Cup Friendly
Nigeria’s Falconets were held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea in their final international friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland on Tuesday.
Mary Mamudu found the back of the net to give the Nigerian U-20 women’s team the lead in the 29th minute at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium.
The Falconets maintained their advantage until half-time.
South Korea, however, returned from the break determined to find a way back into the contest and eventually drew level in the 78th minute after being awarded a penalty.
The match built on the earlier game, in which Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory over hosts Poland, with Mamudu also scoring the goal.
Tuesday’s result means Nigeria completed their final warm-up fixtures ahead of the World Cup with a victory over Poland and a draw against South Korea.
Speaking after the match, head coach Moses Aduku said in a video posted on the Super Falcons’ X handle that the team had completed its preparations without any injury concerns and was ready for the tournament.
“Well, so far so good. We are done with our friendly games, and for me, we are good. No injury worries. I guess are ready. Therefore, we’re waiting for the 7th against Spain,” he said.
Assessing the game, the coach said his side had chances to win but acknowledged the quality of the South Korean team.
“About the game, but for me, game was so good. We lost one or two scoring chances to win the game, but all the same. But I respect the Korean team—they are also a good side,” Aduku said.
He added that the Falconets would approach the tournament one match at a time, beginning with Spain.
“Yes, we are ready. That’s why we are in Poland, and we are here to take one game at a time. So, we have no other game, but to play against the Spanish team on the 7th. So, we are ready,” he said.
The Falconets will open their Group F campaign against Spain on September 7.
They will face China PR on September 10 before concluding their group-stage campaign against New Caledonia on September 13.
