Police Bust Suspected One-chance Robbery Syndicate In Rivers, Arrest Two
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two members of a one-chance robbery syndicate. The suspects had reportedly been terrorising members of the public in the state.
It was gathered that the criminals robbed a lady who boarded a minibus in the Rumuosi axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, unaware of who the other occupants were.
An eyewitness said, “Moments later, the lady started shouting and tried to escape from the robbers but was resisted by them (the one-chance gang).
“The shouting, the brawl and the voice of the lady, however, attracted passers-by who chased after the speeding vehicle. The driver didn’t know his way and got stuck, and residents started attacking them before the police arrived.”
The source further said the police rescued the criminals from the mob, arrested them, and bundled them into a patrol van to the station.
Confirming the arrest in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Saturday, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, described the arrest as a major breakthrough.
Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, adding that operatives have spread their dragnets to ensure the arrest of other members of the notorious criminal gang.
The statement read, “The Rivers State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on one-chance syndicates with the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious one-chance gang operating within the state.
“Following the directives of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, operatives of the Command arrested the perpetrators of the crime.
“The arrested suspects are one Uche Samuel (M), 45, from Omunato LGA, Imo State, and one Nkechi Amadi (F), 42, from Nekede, Imo State.
“During investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the other members of the criminal syndicate.”
Meanwhile, Adepoju reiterated that the Command has declared an onslaught against one-chance operators and all violent criminals across the state.
He warned that there would be no hiding place and no room for one-chance syndicates and other criminal elements in the state, saying the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-driven policing and proactive operations to identify, arrest, and bring offenders to justice.
The Commissioner further assured residents that the Command remains resolute in ensuring the safety and security of all law-abiding citizens in the state.
